About Me

I've been working in the field of computer and network security since late 1970.

I currently serve as executive director of SAFECode, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing trust in information and communications technology products and services through the advancement of effective software assurance methods.

I retired in 2015 as partner director of software security at Microsoft. I joined Microsoft in 1999 as director of the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) and from 2004 to 2013 was responsible for Microsoft's secure development process, the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL).

I was elected to the National Cybersecurity Hall of Fame in 2015 and to the National Academy of Engineering in 2017.
